Collection: Raku
Raku is a Japanese way of firing pots. It consists of removing the pots/ sculptures from the kiln at the height of the firing and making it cool rapidly while being buried in combustible materials. There is a very small window to seize the moment to achieve the desired colors. It's all about temperature, physics of surroundings, chemistry of the glazes and the right moment to receive the gift of desired color. Window is short and one must be vigilant to receive it otherwise opportunity is lost ( just like in real life)
Raku has deep roots in Zen Buddhism and was originally practiced in 1600 century in Japan for tea ceremony. There is so much to discover and learn but whatever little I understood, Raku seems more like a philosophy rather than technique.
